Takenaka Corporation’s “Gallery A4” is currently hosting an exhibition on Noémi Raymond, to which we were honored to contribute archival materials.

These include the original drawing for the “Lotus Rug” designed in 1935, a production ledger that meticulously documents the making of Dantsu in the 1950s, and the actual color samples used by Noémi when selecting wall-to-wall Dantsu carpets.

The production ledger is particularly fascinating. In the words of the head of production at the time, it records the distinctive qualities of color in Noémi’s Dantsu carpets, as well as how exacting she was in every aspect of design, together with the efforts and challenges required to realize her vision. It is a precious testimony to her design from the maker’s point of view.

Noémi Raymond’s designs are refined yet graceful, always carrying kindness and a sense of humor. They are truly wonderful. They bring a feeling of calm and gentle release. Surely, this must have reflected who she was as a person. It is a remarkable exhibition, and we warmly encourage everyone to visit.

Our workshop still holds old records of our work with the Raymond office that have yet to be fully researched. We will continue our research in the hope that we may one day share more good news with you.

竹中工務店「Gallery A4」にて開催中のノエミ・レーモンド展に、弊社も資料を提供させていただきました。

1935年にデザインされた「Lotus Rug」の原画、1950年代の緞通製作の様子を克明に記した製造台帳、そしてノエミが緞通を選ぶ際に実際に使用していた色調サンプルです。

特に製造台帳には、ノエミの緞通における色調の特徴や、デザイン万事にいかに厳格であったかが、それを実現するための苦労とともに、当時の製造長によって記されています。作り手の側から彼女のデザインを捉えた、貴重な証言です。

ノエミ・レーモンドのデザインは、端正でありながら優美で、優しさとユーモアを常にたずさえていて、本当に素敵です。心が落ち着き、ほぐれていくような気持ちになります。きっとそれは、彼女の人となりそのものだったのでしょう。素晴らしい展示でしたので、皆様ぜひ足をお運びください。

工房には、まだ調べきれていない、古いレーモンド設計事務所とのものづくりの記録が残っています。またいつか良いニュースをお届けできますように、リサーチを続けてまいります。
