History: The Craftsmanship and Legacy of Dantsu at the RIHGA Royal Hotel’s Main Lobby.

The custom hand-tufted dantsu carpet, Manyo no Nishiki, gracing the main lobby of the RIHGA Royal Hotel since 1973. This masterpiece was crafted and installed under the meticulous design direction of Isoya Yoshida, with archival photographs—both color and black-and-white—still preserved in our workshop, capturing the artistry of its creation.

Manyo no Nishiki honors and continues the legacy of Yuran, a hand-knotted dantsu carpet installed to the Osaka Royal Hotel, the RIHGA Royal Hotel’s predecessor, in 1964. Yuran was based on an original design by the Japanese painter Yukihiko Yasuda, with Isoya Yoshida overseeing the project’s artistic and technical integrity.

Today, guests entering the hotel’s main lobby are greeted by a redesigned and re-created Manyo no Nishiki, designed by TORAFU ARCHITECTS in 2019. It is our deepest honor and privilege to contribute to the legacy of this magnificent establishment—fondly regarded as Osaka’s guesthouse—for over sixty years.

1973年竣工、吉田五十八の設計によるリーガロイヤルホテルのメインロビーに製作・納入した手刺緞通「万葉の錦」です。工房には、当時の貴重な製作風景がカラーとモノクロ写真で残されています。

この手刺緞通は、1964年に同じく吉田氏の設計で前身となる大阪ロイヤルホテルに納めた手織緞通「幽蘭」の精神性を受け継ぎ、発展させた図案です。「幽蘭」は日本画家・安田靫彦の図案を基に、吉田五十八が監修した一枚でした。

そして現在、同ホテルのメインロビーでは、2019年にトラフ建築設計事務所によってリデザイン、私たちが再製作した「万葉の錦」がお客様をお迎えしています。

半世紀以上にわたり、大阪の迎賓館といえる素晴らしいホテルでものづくりに携われること、この上なく光栄で嬉しく存じます。
